Describe your bug and its beauty

Resa is a graphic, monochromatic depiction of a cicada's journey, inspired by Joseph Campbell's the Hero's Journey in blues, white, and black. At the base of the wings, you see nymphs climbing the roots of an oak tree with backpacks and lanterns. They reach the surface, looking up at the leaves and their path ahead. Through the leaves you can see a mushroom, a fox amongst trees surrounded by cicadas, and at the head of Resa you see two cicadas have found love under sun parted clouds.

How long do you think you took decorating your bug?

On and off over a week

Tell us your Story

The cicadas emerging this year last visited us 17 years ago. What kind of change have you seen in your city, yourself, or someone you know over the last 17 years?

Resa is the saga of the cicada and its quest for love, no matter how short lived it might be. A body completely transformed, entering a whole new environment, with elements and dangerous all around...a hero's journey indeed. I was moved to create Resa as I reflect on my own journey of finding my way as an artist and illustrator.
