The cicadas emerging this year last visited us 17 years ago. What kind of change have you seen in your city, yourself, or someone you know over the last 17 years?
The preschoolers who painted this cicada were not alive 17 years ago, but they have learned about the life cycle of insects and why this emergence of cicadas is so important. The project and the discussions that are taking place around it help young people make sense of what they will see and hear over the next few months and perhaps be excited instead of afraid of cicadas.
